WSU Press Authors Sign at the Bookie this Week
WSU Press and the Bookie will join the CUB opening celebrations this week, with author presentations and book signings from 11:30 – 1:00 in the Bookie’s new location.
On Thursday, September 4, Marc Lindsey, Copyright Law on Campus author and WSU’s own copyright specialist, will answer questions on the topic as it specifically relates to faculty and students at higher education institutions.
Friday, September 5, will feature Washington’s own Rachael Ray, Mary Houser Caditz, with delectable samples and free recipe cards from her best-selling book, Wandering and Feasting.
Also on Friday, Washington history buffs will appreciate an appearance by Jack Nisbet, the award-winning author of The Mapmaker’s Eye, about David Thompson and some of the first contact between Native Americans and Whites on the Columbia Plateau.

This meeting will showcase three of WSU’s women faculty in the arts: Sheila Converse, Music; Carol Ivory, Fine Arts; and Andrea Mason, English/Creative Writing.

Governor Christine Gregoire has directed that flags at all Washington State agency facilities be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, September 4, 2008, in memory of United States Army Specialist Carlo E. Alfonso of Spokane who was killed in action on August 26, in Sadr City, Iraq.

This program provides the legal definition of sexual harassment, the Washington State University's policies and procedures, and skills training for complainants and managers for resolving sexual harassment situations. Cub Grand Reopening – Service Project
Learn how WSU’s organic farm is producing nutritious crops that benefit the body as well as the greater Pullman community. Participate in this hands-on service project today at the Turkey Orchard Organic Farm to weed, plant, water, and harvest the produce that is donated to the Community Action Center Food Bank. Volunteers will convene at 1:30 p.m. today at the CUB main entrance to be transported to the site. The project will wrap up at approximately 4:15 p.m. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and register with the Center for Civic Engagement prior to the event at cce.wsu.edu. To get your tests to the DRC:

Academic Advisor Training - Friday, Sept. 26, 2008
WSU Student Advising and Learning Center (SALC) in conjunction with WSU Academic Advising Association (WSU ACADA) will host an academic advisor training on Friday, September 26, 2008 from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm in the CUB Junior Ballroom. The goal of this training is to provide guidance for up to 100 new and seasoned advisors and to deliver a solid, consistent knowledge base for advisors to ensure excellence in academic advising at WSU.
This is an opportunity for all academic advisors to build collegiality across disciplines and develop support networks to offer the best student-centered service possible. Advisors located in Pullman may register for this training by contacting Leisa Schmidt at lkschmidt@wsu.edu. Due to space limitations (100 seats) this is a first come, first served event. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. This academic advisor training will also be hosted in the near future on other WSU campuses.
